Hit the Reset Button: A New Year is a Great Time to Start Fresh

Isaiah 43:18-19, "Do not remember the past events, pay no attention to things of old. Look, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.

Everyone has felt the need to start over with a clean slate more than once in their life. There are many things we can do to "rest our game clocks."

1. Forgive Yourself

Forgiving yourself is very important. What you did last year has no bearing on what you can change and do differently this year.

1 John 1:19, "When we confess our sins to God he is just and able to forgive us."

You don't have to mope around and feel bad. It's a new year, know that Jesus already took the punishment for your sin.

All you have to do is confess and accept His forgiveness.

2. Focus on the Future

Another thing you can do to reset your clock is to focus on your future, not your past. You can't live in the present if you are always thinking about your past. You can't rewrite yesterday, but you can write a new story today.

3. Evaluate Relationships

Evaluate if you have the healthy relationships that you need. Healthy relationships will give you the emotional and moral support that you need to change and rebuild.

Proverbs 27:17 says, "As iron sharpens iron, so one man/woman sharpens another."

Pick your friends carefully. Look for ones that build you, believe in you, and back you up.

4. Write it Down

The last tip in resetting your game clock, write things down. Set goals.

The Bible tells us in Habakkuk 2:2 to "write the vision and make it plain on the tablets, that he may run who reads it."

Put your vision in writing and make it so clear that is gives you momentum towards your dreams. Everyone has dreams. Dust off some of those old dreams and put them into action. Get a plan together to succeed. You can do it. If God be for you then who can be against you.

Let's Pray…

Father, we thank You for your mercy and grace that provides us with a reset button. We thank You that You have provided us with everything that will give us a bright and hopeful future.

Allow us to use every ounce of wisdom, knowledge and understanding that will make us successful in our walk with You and in the assignments you have given us on earth. Empower us to do great and be great. Cover us with Your love that is everlasting and allow us to remain humble under Your mighty hand. We thank you that You are a God of a second chance and that You forgive our sins as far as the east is from the west. Give us guidance for every decision that we may face and strength to follow every one of your commands in Jesus name Amen.
